Nancy A. Flemm
Nancy A. Flemm began printmaking after attending an Art Chicago
exhibition, which introduced the radical ideologies of contemporary
[non-toxic] print methods. With the saturation of digital imagery
and mounting environmental concern, contemporary printmaking provided
not only a safer health and environmental choice but became an essential
part of the artist statement. Contemporary printmaking, digital
photography and computer technology were fused, reinforcing the
visual dialogue of feminine identity. Showcasing unhealthy mass
cultural standards, which pollute the mind with insecurities, the
work exploits the obvious and obscure struggles with the self-destructive
need to identify with others. The innovation of the intaglio-type
process echoed the vulnerability in personal dissection.
Nancy received an Associate in Marketing, Bachelor in Advertising
Design & Communication, and most recently Master of Fine Art
in printmaking. She left a 10-year career in advertising to pursue
her interest in printmaking and technology rich art at Rochester
Institute of Technology [RIT], studying under the guidance of Keith
Howard. Nancy resides in Chicago, Illinois where the eclectic mingling
of the city fuels her creative endeavors.
