Susan Rostow
Jung Water-based Printshop & Inks, Inc., an experimental printshop
in New York City dedicated to the development and manufacturing
of safer printmaking methods and materials. She and her husband
William Jung formulated a water-based monotype ink, Akua-Kolor,
and a water-based intaglio ink, Akua-2. The inks are compatible
and may be used together to create Viscosity Monotypes. The intaglio
ink works well with the new alternative platemaking techniques like
ImagOn Ultra, Solarplates, Resintaglio, and Photocarborundum. Rostow
and Jung worked closely with Keith Howard, Head of Non-Toxic Printmaking
at the Rochester Institute of Technology, who, along with his graduate
students, tested the inks on ImagOn plates. They also worked with
Dan Weldon with Solarplates, Catherine Kernan with traditional etchings
and monotypes, and Richard Woodman with Resintaglio plates. Rostow
is an active artist and educator who exhibits internationally. She
is the recipient of the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant. She and
her husband have a young son Jarrett who participates in creating
monoprints. |
