National Non-Toxic Printmaking Invitational

Arlyne Springer

Arlyne Springer received a BFA with High Distinction from Herron School of Art. She has been a part of the local art community for more than 30 years and has exhibited in juried exhibitions locally, regionally, and nationally. Her artwork is in private and corporate collections.

As an abstract painter, she focuses on exploring line, color, shape, gesture, and design. She works with these elements until they are in balance, relating mood and emotion.

Her monotypes are printed with oil-based inks; however great care is taken to avoid any toxic problems. She keeps her studio well ventilated when she prints and she wears rubber gloves. She uses vegetable oil for clean up of ink, rollers, and plates. A spraying of water and/or soap liquid solution will cut through any film of oil remaining. If wood blocks are used as plates, a light amount of vegetable oil is used with much of the ink rubbed off with a dry rag.
