Liquid Aquatint-Type

(See Non-Toxic Intaglio Type for overall description of this process)

Carborundum grit can be mixed with screen filler and applied directly to areas of a metal plate to create an image. The more carborundum in the mixture and the heavier the application, the richer the blacks. This method is often used to rework plates.

Variations: Liquid Aquatint, which produces black tones, is often combined on a plate with screen filler, which makes white and light tones; the two techniques may be worked back and forth to create an interesting image directly on the plate. Liquid Aquatint and screen filler are also often used in combination with other Intaglio-Type techniques to rework plates, including those with an image developed with ImagOn Ultra. Another variation is to coat an entire plate with Liquid Aquatint and remove it differentially with spit-bite to create an image.
