ImagOn Ultra is laminated to a plate, exposed with the aquatint
screen, and developed. If the plate was printed at this point, the
resultant image would be totally black. Speedball Screen filler
is applied to create areas of tonality in the print. The heavier
the application, the lighter the tone.
Variations: Screen filler dries from the outside in and is waterproof
when dry. Washing off screen filler after the edges of lines have
dried produces thin white lines. Diluting screen filler with water
softens the effects. Screen filler can be applied directly to a
plate to create a light image. Screen filler can be applied to sandcloth,
which is then inked and printed; screen filler areas are lighter.
