Photo-Stencil Intaglio-Type
(See Non-Toxic Intaglio Type
for overall description of this process)
An ImagOn Ultra laminated plate is exposed to light with transparencies
from photocopiers or inkjet printers serving as the block-out to
create the image. The transparency stencil can be made from a drawing,
text, photograph, or combination. The photograph may be manipulated
in PhotoShop to give different effects. One of Donna Adams’
prints in this exhibit was made to look like traditional mezzotint
intaglio by applying a PhotoShop mezzotint filter. The image can
be converted to a digital halftone prior to making the transparency.
Variations:
If the ImagOn Ultra laminated plate is first exposed with an aquatint
screen, solid black areas on the stencil will be black on the print.
If the ImagOn Ultra laminated plate is not exposed with an aquatint
screen prior to being exposed with the transparency, the solid black
areas on the stencil will print white with black edges. If the laminated
plate is exposed to the aquatint screen at the same time as the
transparency, black and white stencil areas will be reversed on
the print.
